Stress & Adrenal Support

Stress

Everyone experiences stress in their lives, however too much unmanaged stress can often lead to adrenal dysfunction and then lead to other hormonal imbalances downstream. Stress disrupts the natural balance of adrenal hormone production resulting in a constant state of heightened awareness or alarm, depleting the body’s hormone resources overtime. If left untreated, many other hormones such as DHEA, progesterone, estrogen, testosterone, and thyroid hormones can all be affected.

At Points for Wellness we provide those in , Soquel, and surrounding areas with a natural, individualized approach to help you balance your hormones and help you feel like yourself again.

What is Adrenal Dysfunction?

Adrenal dysfunction or Hypothalamus axis dysfunction can result when the adrenal glands function below their optimum level. The adrenals control your body’s response to stress by releasing hormones, mainly cortisol – a crucial steroid hormone that helps regulate your overall health and well-being. Cortisol helps regulate your immune system, metabolism, control blood sugar levels and reduce inflammation. The problem is, if you are exposed to stress on a regular basis, whether it’s physical, emotional or environmental,  you can weaken your adrenals by forcing them to constantly manufacture cortisol.

Symptoms of Adrenal Dysfunction

  • Constant fatigue
  • Cravings for sweets and carbohydrates
  • Frequent moodiness and anxiety
  • Difficulty losing weight
  • Frequent insomnia
  • Low libido
  • Hormonal imbalance
  • Infertility
  • Brain fog
  • Digestive issues
  • Low immune function

How to treat for Adrenal Dysfunction

When people have adrenal dysfunction, traditional blood tests don’t usually reveal the condition. There are a variety of reasons for this, but one reason is that cortisol output varies throughout the day. So one draw at one particular time during the day doesn’t give you the full picture of how the adrenals are functioning.

At Points for Wellness, we use the DUTCH test (which stand for dried urine test for comprehensive hormones) or a salivary test to evaluate the health of the adrenals. The DUTCH test measures cortisol rhythm, free cortisol, metabolized cortisone, and total 24- hour cortisol production, and DHEA. By utilizing this test, we can take the guess work out and begin a very strategic, targeted approach to healing your adrenals.

We also create a comprehensive treatment plan that is outlined just for you. Lifestyle and nutrition are an extremely important part of healing the adrenals. If you are wondering if we can help you, don’t hesitate to schedule a free 15 minute phone consultation.
